On Board 1, Roy resigned after succumbing to a strong attack by his opponent who had two central rooks on open files and two fianchettoed bishops.
On Board 2, Phil's opponent played the Pirc Defense but allowed the d file to open up, allowing Phil to exchange queens, with Black's King unable to castle after 3. ... K x d8. Later Phil won the exchange by forking king and rook with his knight, and after most of the queenside pawns were cleared his c pawn was able to queen.
On Board 3 James pulled off a successful Bishop sacrifice to win his opponents Queen.
On board 4, Ken found himself down by the exchange and two pawns, and was unable defend this material inferiority.
A closely fought match.
