Press Report 1st December 2017

In Torbay League Division 3, South Hams narrowly won by 2½ – 1½ away to Torquay Boys’ Grammar School, with wins for Ben Wilkinson and Chris Willcox, a draw for Roy Greenhalgh and a defeat for Alan Davies. The TBGS boys are improving rapidly, and could be a force to be reckoned in with in Division 3 next year.

In Torbay League Division 4, South Hams lost by 3 – 1 at home to a strong Plymouth team, with draws for Dennis Russell and Alan Davies, and defeats for Jim Savage and John Belli.

South Hams got their revenge a few days later, winning by 2½ – 1½ at Plymouth in Division 1, with Steve Levy and James Schofield winning, David Archer drawing and Phil McConnell losing.

In the Homan League, Steve Levy avenged his shock defeat the previous week by Roy Greenhalgh, comfortably winning the return game with the black pieces.

The Dunleavy League, Ken Ashby consolidated his place in second place with wins over John Belli and Richard Thomas, while James Schofield moved up to fourth place with a win over Jim Savage.

In the Cookworthy Knockout Cup, there were first round wins for Phil McConnell over Tony Collins, and David Archer over Barry Sweetman.
