Press Report 6th October 2017

In a full club room with 10 games being played, there weren’t any surprise results, but some very tense games. In the Homan League David Archer beat Roy Greenhalgh and Ben Wilkinson ground down a very defensive position against Clifford Peach.

While in the Dunleavy League there were some exciting games, but no shock results. The game of the evening must be given to Ken Ashby v Oliver Zaffiro. 12 year old Oliver had Ken absolutely beaten, but a weak move in the end game saw Ken rob the youngster of a great win. While in other games; Jim Savage beat Noah Farrand, James Fowler beat Tony Collins, James Schofield beat John Belli and the two Masters of the Dunleavy, Dennis Russell and Phil McConnell played out a tense draw.

The Knockout Cookworthy Cup got under way with a preliminary game with Chris Wilcox beating new member Richard Thomas. In the first round proper, Steve Levy beat Alan Davies which sets him up now to play the winner of James Fowler or Roy Greenhalgh.

The club starts their Torbay League campaign with two fixtures; first with an away game at Teignmouth. The team selected Steve Levy, David Archer, Ben Wilkinson and James Schofield, while for the home match against Newton Abbot the team is Ben Wilkinson, Clifford Peach, Roy Greenhalgh and Chris Wilcox. The club hope to repeat last season’s success when they won Torbay’s League Division 2, 3, and 4 titles along with the Rapid Play League - a task that will be very difficult to repeat.
