Press Report 8th December 2017

In Torbay League Division 4, South Hams bounced back from the previous week’s defeat against Plymouth with 2½ – 1½ victory away to Newton Abbot, with wins for Dennis Russell and Alan Davies, a draw for Ken Ashby and a defeat for Richard Thomas.

In the Homan League, Steve Levy beat Chris Willcox, comfortably winning the pre-Christmas stage of the league with 9 wins out of 10.

James Schofield’s games in the Dunleavy League nearly always seem to go to a tense end game, with James’ end game technique securing him a win under time pressure. His game against Jim Savage seemed to be following this pattern, but on this occasion, with several club members gathered around the board to watch, it was James who erred under time pressure, and Jim gained a fine win. In other Dunleavy games, Barry Sweetman beat Noah Farrand, and John Belli drew with Tony Collins.

In the Cookworthy Knockout Cup, James Fowler pulled off an excellent win against Roy Greenhalgh. He will face a stiff challenge – against Steve Levy – in the next round.
