Press Report 22nd December 2017

With no matches against other clubs, and a meeting of the Club Committee on club night, it has been a relatively quiet week for results.

Four players will get promoted from the Dunleavy League at Christmas. With Phil McConnell’s promotion already assured, the other three promotion places are being contested by four players – Ken Ashby, Alan Davies, James Fowler and James Schofield. All four were in action last week, and all four won. Zak Zaffiro got the better of Ken Ashby in the opening, but eventually succumbed to Ken’s counter-attack. Against Alan Davies, Dennis Russell missed an opportunity to win a piece, a mistake which proved costly as Alan went on to win after a complicated middle-game. James Fowler (against Tony Collins) and James Schofield (against Oliver Zaffiro) both converted a material advantage into a win.

In the M. Wray Shield, Roy Greenhalgh beat Richard Thomas.
