Press Report 5th January 2017

The last week before Christmas brought resolution to the club’s mid-season promotion and relegation issues. Without playing any more games, Roy Greenhalgh and Clifford Peach were relegated from the Homan League.

In the Dunleavy League, Phil McConnell and Ken Ashby had already secured the top two places. Alan Davies drew with John Belli, and Alan’s half point was enough to secure him third position. This meant that the final promotion position came down to a shoot-out between James Fowler and James Schofield, who played each other on the last club night before Christmas! To secure 4th position, James Fowler needed a win or a draw, while James Schofield needed a win. In a close game, James Schofield eventually emerged as the winner, and thus he will join Phil, Ken and Alan in the Homan League in the new year.

In other Dunleavy League games, Alan Davies narrowly beat Jim Savage, who looks like a strong promotion contender in the new year, while Ken Ashby beat Richard Thomas.

In the Cookworthy Cup, Dennis Russell beat John Belli. In the next round Dennis will play the winner of the game between Chris Willcox and Zak Zaffiro.
