Press Report 8th November 2019

It was fitting that it was Halloween week as a few of the members had a real fright over the board. David Archer was completely losing only for Alan Davies to forget to press his clock in a last minute time scramble and lose. Steve Dickinson was all of a tremble until his squeezed the win against Phil McConnell. James Schofield was in a cold sweat before finally turning the tables on Arthur Doble to collect the point. The two top seeds went Head to Head twice this week with Steve Levy scoring 1 and a half against Dennis Cowleys half point. In the Dunleavey League Arthur Doble played a solid game to beat Tony Collins.

Brixham were the visiting team this week in Division 2, and it turned out to be tough accross all 4 boards. The eventual result was 2-2 with Steve Dickinson losing to Chris Collins, James Schofield beating Mike Cuggy, Phil McConnell beating Barry Lippard and Alan Davies losing to Steven Cawser.

This coming weekend is the Torbay Chess Congress (8th 9th and 10th) with over 130 players coming from accross the country to play. See www.torbaycongress.com

The 'Game Of The Week' award this week though has to go to Trevor Hurt who totally outplayed James Fowler and probably left him having nightmares...it was the 31st October after all.
