Press Report 22nd November 2019

A busy November so far. In Div 1 the newly formed Totnes team were visitors on the 7th and ran away surprise winners with a 3-1 scoreline. The Division 3 team travelled to Newton Abbott and were surprise winners themselves with a score of 1.5 to 2.5. There was another match up with Newton Abbott on the 14th, this time in the Rapidplay Division. After an extremely tough encounter South Hams came away victorious on the night. 4.5 to 3.5.

The internal leagues are taking shape too with the top four in the Homan League being Steve Levy on 6, Steve Dickinson on 5, James Fowler on 4 and Ben Wilkinson on 3. The Dunleavey League sees David Archer on 5.5, James Schofield on 5, Arthur Doble on 3.5 and Dennis Cowley on 3. James Schofield is now the only undefeated player at the club this season and has a few games in hand. In the Cookworthy Cup we have 5 quarter finalists so far. Steve Dickinson, Trevor Hurt, Roy Greenhalgh, Barry Sweetman and Steve Levy.

It was a welcome return to the club by Ken Ashby after a time away but he was shown no mercy by Steve Dickinson who beat him in the M Wray Shield. Other results saw Arthur Doble beating Alan Davies and Roy Greenhalgh faring well against Tony Collins.

The Torbay Congress was a great success from the 8th to the 10th with the highest number of entries in recent memory (137). Steve Levy had a tough time in the Open gaining only 2 points all weekend. Trevor Hurt faired a similar fate in the Foundation Section managing just 1.5 points. It was better news for Roy Greenhalgh in the same section who scored 3.5 and came in joint 3rd. Cliff Peach had an even stronger tournament in the Intermediate section gaining a very decent 3 points and the grading prize outright. Congratulations though must go to David Archer who came out on top in the Major section with a very impressive 4.5 out of 5 to take the top prize and The Challenge Cup.
