All-Day Chess Session at Tesco's Kingsbridge
Cliff has got Phil scratching his head, while James seems more interested in chatting to Derek than his game against Barry!
Derek looks calm, but Phil is biting his nails...
Derek (right) and Ken (left) start a new game
Ken (near right) and Ben (far right) take on challengers
Ken seems to be up in material with a commanding centre
Against Cliff, Ken's passed pawn on the d-file gave him a decisive advantage
The canopy above the Tesco car park provided a pleasant playing environment
Cliff plays a visitor from Bucks, while Phil plays a visitor from Manchester
Hmmm... not looking good for Cliff
Ken feigns sympathy as Cliff suffers a defeat
Ben has no time for chivalry and forces a win

As a pre-season opener, South Hams Chess Club staged an all-day chess session at Tesco's Kingsbridge on Saturday 22nd August.
The weather was kind, and an enjoyable day was had by all who participated. It was pleasing that a number of people stopped to play, while others watched. South Hams Club members won more games than they lost, but nevertheless two non-members won games: one of them was 10 years old, and the other managed to beat two of the club's stronger players!
We would like to thank Tesco for giving us the opportunity to encourage local people to play chess, and spread awareness of the fact that there is a local club in Kingsbridge for anyone wishing to improve their game.
