Torbay Chess League Division 1

South Hams Chess Club fields a team in Division 1 of the Torbay Chess League. This entails home and away matches against Newton Abbot, Plymouth, Teignmouth and Torbay. Games played in the TCL are submitted to the ECF grading database.

In this division, teams consist of four players; there is no maximum team grade.  The rate of play is 60 minutes plus 30 seconds per move (starting from move 1).  The away team has white on the odd-numbered boards.

Board 1, bore draw between us two. I played the lazy man's opening. Bill did what he always does against me, neutralize the game.

Boards 2 + 3, both David and James came unstuck out of the opening, only to find their opponents play in a rather pedestrian manner giving the two of them some real counterplay, only to drop the points in the eleventh hour...

Board 4, hard fought this one, right to the wire. First Ben was doing well, then not so, then on top once more only to give Charles a real drawing chance. Thankfully he didn't take it.

Board 1..please see comments on game database.
Board 2..Last to finish and game of the night.Against a top player David had a totally won position,only to start poncing about with his Rooks...
got one of them imprisoned only for Trefor under pressure to release it on bail,David didn't need a second chance..lot's of tension in
this game.
Board 3..Young James did well,but,against Alan,always tough.A good learning curve.
Board 4..Didn't see this game ( Not on database ) but Phil had the largest grade difference and Charles can beat most players on his day.
