South Hams Hosts the 2015 Torbay League AGM
On 11th June, The Annual General Meeting of the Torbay Chess League for 2014-15 was held at the South Hams Club venue.
Ben Wilkinson had announced at the previous AGM that he would be standing down as secretary, and Phil McConnell was elected as the new secretary - so the post moves from one South Hams member to another. Alan Kinder (Newton Abbot) was re-elected as President, Tony Tatam (Plymouth) was re-elected as Competition Secretary, and Alan Brusey (Teignmouth) was re-elected as Treasurer.
Concluding another successful season for the Torbay League, trophies were presented as follows.
| Division | Winner | Presented To | Individual Award |
|---|---|---|---|
| One | Newton Abbot | Andrew Kinder | Stephen Homer (absent) |
| Two | Newton Abbot | Wilf Taylor | Wilf Taylor |
| Three | South Hams | Phil McConnell | Phil McConnell |
| Four | Plymouth | Tony Tatam | Tony Tatam |
| Rapidplay | Newton Abbot | Andrew Kinder | Trefor Thynne (absent) |

So, two trophies went to South Hams:
- the shield for the Division 3 champions was won by the South Hams team - the first time South Hams has won a Torbay League title since 2005
- the trophy for the Division 3 "Player of the Year" was awarded to Phil McConnell for his 6½ points out of 10.
